Each detergent drawer in a washing machine can be easily removed at any time, as they all have a similar design. However, removing the drawer from an Ariston washing machine can be challenging, as its design is quite different from other models. We'll explain how to properly remove this plastic element.
Tray ejection mechanism
The powder drawer in the Ariston "home helper" can only be removed by twisting it, not by pulling it toward you like in other machines. If you try to remove it by pulling too hard, not only will it not come out of its slots because the clips will interfere, but it could also easily break. To prevent this, follow our instructions carefully.
Pull out the powder receptacle to its maximum length.
There is a small latch located near the base of the tray on the right - it is important to pull the right side of the compartment so that the latch engages and the right side of the tray begins to dangle.
At this point, don't touch the left side of the tray; instead, carefully pull out the center section. This will keep the front of the tray in place, allowing you to remove the drawer containing the chemical compartments.
It may seem complicated, but in practice, the entire process takes just seconds. After the first try, you'll master the principle and be able to quickly repeat it as needed. It is noteworthy that putting the powder receptacle back is much easier than taking it out. To do this, you need to find the groove on the right side of the tray, insert it into the guide and slide the part into place.
How to properly clean a detergent drawer?
Any household appliance requires proper care, otherwise its lifespan will be significantly shorter than the manufacturer's stated lifespan. The detergent drawer is no exception, so it should be regularly cleaned of household chemicals. It's best to do this after each use, as this makes cleaning easy. Simply remove the drawer and quickly rinse it under a powerful stream of hot water to remove any remaining detergent, gel, conditioner, or other detergent.
If you don't clean the powder compartment for several months, it may develop not only a buildup of plaque but also mold. If this happens, simply rinsing the part won't work—instead, you'll need to thoroughly wash it as follows:
buy a special sponge with an abrasive surface;
Mix water with baking soda in a glass in a 50 to 50 ratio;
Pour the resulting solution into the powder container and leave it there for several hours;
Wipe the sides of the tray with a stiff sponge to remove all dirt.
In addition to this water and baking soda method, you can use a solution of baking soda and 9% vinegar. This mixture will also effectively remove all mold and mildew. In this case, add about 200 milliliters of vinegar to one liter of boiling water, then let the part soak for at least six hours. After this procedure, all dirt can be removed even with a regular cloth.
Finally, you can use citric acid instead of baking soda and vinegar. To do this, pour the acid into each section of the detergent drawer and activate any high-temperature cycle. It's important that there are no clothes in the drum during this cycle. The empty wash cycle should be run at a temperature above 60 degrees Celsius to ensure that all mold and mildew are removed after the cycle is complete.
Rinse the detergent dispenser after each use, and remember to leave it open for a few hours to allow all the moisture to evaporate.
Choose any of the methods described and easily clean the detergent drawer of your favorite laundry detergent. However, it's much better to prevent buildup and clean the drawer after each wash. As an additional preventative measure, you can wipe each compartment of the tray dry with napkins.
What if the drawer is difficult to insert and remove?
Sometimes, even when following all the rules and recommendations, the powder compartment is difficult to remove. The problem may be caused by the "teeth" on the bottom of the compartments, which many consider a manufacturing defect. In this case, you'll have to do a little work yourself.
If you've just purchased a new washing machine, you can remove the detergent dispenser and lightly file the teeth with regular sandpaper. All you need to do is file down about 1 millimeter of plastic, which will help the drawer slide in and out of its slot more easily. This simple procedure will save you a lot of time and frustration in the future, and it only takes less than a minute.
