How to remove the detergent drawer in an Indesit or Ariston washing machine
Probably every second housewife who uses an automatic washing machine knows how to remove the standard detergent drawer. The standard detergent drawer has a special tab in the center, near the fabric softener compartment. By pressing this tab, you can simultaneously pull the drawer itself and remove it without any problem. 90% of washing machine brands have this design, but some washing machines (Indesit, Ariston) have a different drawer design and require a special removal method. Indesit washing machine
Removing the detergent drawer from an Indesit or Hotpoint-Ariston washing machine is quite difficult. Many users have tried in vain to remove the detergent drawers from these machines, tearing them out by the roots. Surprisingly, many even read the washing machine's manual. but in these instructions this process is described so sparingly and unclearly, that in the end you have to rely only on your intuition and skill.
Imagine this: you just bought an Indesit washing machine, used it for a while, and decided to clean the detergent dispenser. The dispenser has never been removed, and its internal mechanism is completely intact. What do you do?
- We pull the compartment of the washing machine towards ourselves until it stops, so that it appears as much as possible.
- Squat down and examine the bottom of the tray; there are teeth on the right and left that prevent the compartment from being removed. Lubricate them with a small amount of vegetable oil.

Lifting the powder tray upwards allows you to slip past the two right teeth that are the biggest obstacles to removing it, but you cannot remove the container of an Indesit washing machine by simply lifting it upwards, as described in the instructions.
- Next, we again take hold of the body of the Indesit washing machine powder tray and press on it from above so that it moves downwards, producing a click.
- Now the tray comes out at a slight angle, continue to press on it from above and at the same time pull the container towards you with some force - it will pop out.
On a Hotpoint-Ariston machine
As noted above, most washing machines have a standard, straight-pull detergent drawer. Press the tab near the fabric softener compartment, and the drawer pops out easily. But how do you remove a drawer that pulls out like a fan? A prime example is the Hotpoint-Ariston washing machine. On the one hand, such a tray is very convenient, as all the compartments, from the compartment for the main wash to the compartment for the conditioner, are more clearly separated. On the other hand, when it comes time to wash the tray, you have to deal with the problem of removing it.
With an Indesit washing machine, you can simply tug the detergent drawer hard and it will pop out, possibly without causing any damage. With a Hotpoint-Ariston washing machine, this won't work. If you tug hard enough, you'll break the front part of the drawer, causing the contents of the fabric softener compartment to spill onto the floor and requiring the entire part to be replaced. - We pull out the powder tray until it stops.
- We take hold of the edge of the tray body on the right side and lift it up a little.

By lifting the edge of the tray, we pull it out of the groove, bypassing the limiter, which allows us to then remove the container without any problems.
What to do next?
Once you've successfully removed the detergent drawer from your Indesit washing machine and rinsed it clean, don't rush to put it back. Removing the drawer again may cause problems, and the same teeth will still get in the way. What can you do to make removing the drawer easier in this brand of washing machine in the future?
Experts and experienced users recommend taking a file or sandpaper and slightly sharpening the plastic limiting teeth. You don't need to grind it down too much, just remove about 1 mm of plastic. I have an Indesit. It has three pairs of ridges on the tray. I made it easier to remove the tray by sliding the flat side of a kitchen spatula underneath it (under the first pairs of ridges, the ones on the left and in the middle, at the same height). Try it; it's much easier.
