Fabric softener added during washing makes clothes feel soft and pleasant to the touch, imparting a delicious scent. The results depend directly on the quality of the product, but also on whether it was used correctly. Rinse aid compartment

It might seem like it doesn't matter which compartment you add the detergent to. In fact, the machine doesn't dispense the detergent from the dispenser simultaneously, but rather depending on the wash cycle. For example, fabric softener should be applied after the wash cycle, during the rinse cycle, so the machine releases the conditioner stored in the rinse compartment last. Conversely, if you pour fabric softener into the base compartment, the machine will use it during the wash cycle, and the conditioner will simply be wasted, as it will be washed out by the water.

LG washing machines have a different fabric softener tray than others. As a rule, it is painted blue and marked with a flower symbol or some other symbol (not a Roman numeral, like the other sections)This is where you should pour the fabric softener, and the base detergent in the compartment marked II. Then everything will be fine, and your clothes will be in excellent condition after washing.

What are the other compartments for?

So, it's clear that the fabric softener compartment is impossible to confuse with any other compartment. It's located in the middle between the other two drawers. To the right of it is a compartment marked with the Roman numeral "I" for soaking heavily soiled laundry. This compartment should be used if the selected program automatically includes a prewash, or if this option is selected separately.

To the left of the fabric softener dispenser is a compartment marked with the Roman numeral II—the base compartment. Regular detergent is added here for any type of wash. It is also extremely difficult to confuse the base compartment, as it differs from the other compartments in terms of capacity and volume. It takes in much more of the substance than the others, and much more frequently, so it looks different.

Do not neglect the user manual

If you still want to be on the safe side and find illustrated instructions for the detergent drawer, check your LG washing machine's user manual. It's always included with the machine. Try not to lose the manual, even if you don't think you'll need it. Otherwise, you can search for information online. People post scanned copies of the pages on forums, and on LG's official website, all manuals for current machines have been digitized and made publicly available.

Make sure the tray is clean

It's crucial to monitor the condition of the rinse aid compartment. Due to mechanical issues, the machine may not completely remove the detergent, leaving a small amount inside. This residue eventually hardens and forms a very hard deposit. When the deposits become excessive, they become a buildup that prevents the machine from using fabric softener and other products. There are several ways to clean the compartment.

• Simply take it out and scrub with a stiff brush or sponge.
• Pour citric acid into all compartments and run an empty wash cycle.
• Sprinkle baking soda into all compartments, then pour 9% acetic acid over the entire mixture. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes, then scrub with a brush.

After treatment with baking soda and vinegar, the tray will not only be cleaned of dirt and plaque, but will also become significantly whiter, returning to its original appearance (plastic tends to turn yellow with prolonged use of powders).

   The rinse aid compartment in the LG washing machine is extremely poorly designed. When the machine vibrates, it simply spills out. During the main wash, it ends up in the drum, neutralizing the detergent's effects.
