How to replace the shock absorber on a Hansa washing machine?

How to replace the shock absorber on a Hansa washing machineHansa automatic washing machines are known for their stability. They don't wobble or bounce during operation thanks to a well-designed shock-absorbing system. If your "home helper" suddenly starts bouncing during the spin cycle, it's important to pay attention to the springs and dampers—they support the drum and partially absorb vibrations during the wash cycle. When these elements fail to cope with their intended function, the entire washing machine suffers: bearings break faster, seals deteriorate, drive belts wear out, the motor wears out, and the drum bursts. Therefore, replacing the shock absorbers in your washing machine is a must. We'll tell you how to repair your automatic washing machine.

Are the shock absorbers really broken?

If you decide to repair your washing machine yourself, you should understand what shock absorbers are. They are cylindrical components consisting of a piston, a sealing gasket, a rod, and a spring. The mechanism works together to dampen vibrations from the drum rotating at high speed.

Some modern Hansa vehicles use dampers instead of shock absorbers. They are similar in design, but with one difference: the springs are located separately to improve balance. If the stabilizing elements fail, the tank begins to oscillate sideways, deforming all adjacent components.How to check the shock absorber in a car

You can understand that there is a problem with the springs by the characteristic “symptoms”. If the shock absorbers are not functioning at full capacity, the machine will begin to vibrate, creak, and “jump” during washing. However, it is better to check the stabilizers before purchasing new replacement components.

Before repairing, it is important to de-energize the washing machine and turn off the valve that supplies water to the system.

Checking whether your Hansa washing machine's shock absorbers are working properly is very simple. To do this:

  • unscrew the two screws holding the top panel and move the “cover” to the side;
  • Use your hands to press on the tank, moving it down by 4-5 cm;
  • stop pressing suddenly and remove your hands from the container;
  • observe the tank.

If the shock absorbers are working properly, the tank should immediately return to its original position and remain motionless. If the "centrifuge" continues bouncing up and down like a ball for a while, the dampers will need to be replaced. Let's figure out how to repair this "home helper."

Let's get to work

First, you should purchase suitable replacement parts. While you can try repairing the shock absorbers, there's a good chance you'll need to repair your Hansa washing machine again after a few washes. Therefore, it's best to install new components right away.

Both original, "native" springs and universal shock absorbers are suitable for Hansa washing machines.

When purchasing spare parts, consider the specific model of your washing machine. Even better, remove the worn shock absorbers and take them to the store. If you can't find any similar products in your city, it's best to take your time and order the appropriate components online. You can find both open and closed shock absorbers on the market. Open shock absorbers are much cheaper, but also significantly inferior in quality. They leak fluid, which leads to rust and wear of the rubber. These stabilizers fail more quickly.new shock absorbers

Sealed shock absorbers are preferable. They're sealed and will last much longer, which, in turn, is reflected in their cost. Once you've purchased a new pair of springs, you can begin replacing them. The shock absorbers are located under the gas tank. Let's figure out how to remove them correctly.

  1. Drain the water from the machine through the waste filter.
  2. Place the washing machine on its side to gain access to the bottom.under the bottom of the Ariston washing machine
  3. Remove the bolts holding the bottom tray.
  4. Find the two pins located under the tank (they may be white or black). These are the shock absorbers.
  5. Unscrew the bolts that secure the shock absorbers using a 13 mm wrench.
  6. Remove faulty stabilizers.
  7. Install the new shock absorbers and secure them properly.
  8. Fix the machine tray and return the machine to the vertical position.

Next, you should check whether the replacement was performed correctly. Remove the top of the housing and press down on the Hansa washing machine's drum. If the drum stops bouncing and immediately snaps into place, the shock absorbers are working. Run the "Spin" mode to finally verify the repair was successful. The appliance should not vibrate and make noise.

    Could you please clarify the shock absorber attachment points to the tank? The Hansa AWB510LR doesn't have a movable pin. This means the tank halves need to be separated. This is a very labor-intensive process. Are there any other options?
