How to replace shock absorbers on an LG washing machine?

How to replace shock absorbers on an LG washing machineEveryone knows that washing machines are subject to centrifugal force, which creates powerful vibrations during the washing process and, especially, during the spin cycle. To mitigate this "shaking," washing machine designers developed special shock absorbers. Without them, no machine will spin, as this poses a safety hazard to its internal components. If a malfunction occurs, an error message immediately appears on the display, and then the shock absorbers in your LG washing machine must be replaced. Fortunately, this can be done yourself.

Damper replacement instructions

Shock absorbers fail primarily due to overloading the drum. If you regularly load the machine with 7 kg of laundry instead of 5, the shock absorbers will fail much sooner than in 10 years. Incidentally, this approach can also lead to failure of other components.

unscrew the shock absorberBefore removing the washing machine and replacing the shock absorbers, disconnect the water supply and power supply. Now remove the baseboard panel to drain the filter, and place a container underneath. The filter plug is unscrewed counterclockwiseNext, you'll need to remove the top panel, as well as either the rear, front, or bottom wall, depending on which shock absorber needs replacing.

  1. Loosen the screws on the top cover and back panel and then remove them.
  2. Now move to the front wall. First, remove the detergent drawer, then remove the control panel, putting it in a safe place.
  3. Next, lift the hatch cuff, locate the clamp, and disconnect it. Then, bend the cuff further back into the hatch.
  4. Remove the front panel, disconnect the lock wiring.
  5. Reach under the tank and feel for the shock absorbers. The dampers are attached either to the bottom of the body or to the side; remove the mounting.
  6. Afterwards, try wiggling the part. If it moves easily, repair is needed.

Attention! Dampers can only be replaced in pairs!

You can remove the part by unscrewing the top latch. To do this, take a 13 mm screwdriver and remove the small screw. Now the shock absorber will come out without any problems. Incidentally, when purchasing a new part, please contact an authorized LG store to ensure a perfect fit and trouble-free operation. If the part you need is not in stock, order it through the same store; it should arrive within a week.

All that's left is to install the new part. To do this, insert the gasket into the special damper spring. Then install the part itself. Secure everything with the same screwdriver and the same bolt.

We are replacing the hanging elements

It can be difficult to get to the shock absorberThe springs are located at the top of the washing machine. Their purpose is to prevent the tank from hitting the top wall. These elements keep the tank suspended. Springs can also fail, and their condition can be easily checked. To do this, press firmly on the tank and release. If it suddenly jumps up and hits the top panel, the springs are not doing their job. Replacing them is quite simple:

  • remove the top panel;
  • Place a block under the tank, as it is held only by springs, and they will have to be removed;
  • Now simply disconnect the springs from the tank and from the body to which they are attached with hooks.

After replacement, perform the same steps in reverse order. The necessary parts are available at the LG store. Unlike shock absorbers, springs can be replaced individually, and they are much less likely to fail than dampers.
