How to replace the seal on a Haier washing machine
Is it possible to replace the seal on a Haier washing machine without a professional? Absolutely yes. Removing the old seal and installing the new one requires minimal tools, and the job itself takes about half an hour.
We'll explain how to replace the door seal on Haier front-mounted washing machines. We'll detail every step of the process. We'll also highlight potential difficulties and offer tips on how to avoid them.
Have you prepared everything for the upcoming work?
If you decide to replace your washing machine's seal yourself, prepare for the task ahead. First, figure out where the seal is located, how it's secured, and how to properly remove it. The seal is secured with two compression clamps—these will need to be removed from the machine.
You should also take care of selecting new components in advance. To ensure the sealing rubber fits properly, select parts for a specific washing machine model. Haier. It's better to buy a high-quality original seal rather than a cheaper alternative. This will ensure the seal lasts longer.
If you're worried about making a mistake, you can remove the old rubber first and take it to the store. There's also a marking on the cuff; when ordering online, you can refer to the manufacturer's markings. This way, you'll be sure to find the right size seal.
The next step is preparing the tools for the job. The list is short. To replace the Haier washing machine seal, you'll need:
screwdrivers (Phillips and slotted);
screwdriver (if you don’t want to unscrew the screws with screwdrivers);
flashlight.
To replace the drum seal of a Haier automatic washing machine, all you need is a Phillips and slotted screwdriver and a power screwdriver.
Next, you need to prepare the washing machine. Be sure to unplug the power cord from the outlet. Then, turn off the water supply valve. Next, disconnect the inlet and drain hoses from the washing machine.
Compliance with safety precautions is crucial. Do not disassemble the washing machine while it's plugged in. Therefore, first disconnect the power to the washing machine and only then move it away from the wall or furniture or remove the top cover.
There's no way to get around this Haier washing machine without disassembling the case. In any case, you'll need to remove the top cover and control panel with buttons. What's the order for this?
Partial disassembly of the machine and removal of the outer clamp
Removing the old seal is a fairly easy task. Removing the rubber seal is much easier than installing a new one. All you need to do is remove the top of the washing machine housing and the dashboard. The procedure is as follows:
Make sure that the machine is de-energized and disconnected from water and utilities;
unscrew the two screws holding the top cover of the washing machine housing;
remove the panel and put it aside;
remove the bolts securing the metal strip that was hidden under the top panel, remove the part;
remove the detergent drawer from the washing machine;
remove the two screws holding the water tray;
unscrew the bolts securing the control panel (they are located on the sides of the dashboard);
Take a photo of the wiring diagram to the control module;
Disconnect the wire contacts and move the dashboard aside;
unscrew the screw located on the front panel of the machine, just below the cuff (it secures the outer crimping clamp);
remove the outer clamp that secures the sealing rubber;
tuck the protruding edges of the cuff into the drum;
Unscrew the front panel of the washing machine housing.
The next step is removing the gasket from the tank. This will require some effort, as removing the inner clamp is more difficult than the outer one. We'll explain the next steps.
We remove the old rubber and install a new one.
To remove the cuff from the tank, you need to work with the internal crimping rim. The metal clamp fastening is loosened using a slotted screwdriver. Once you have mastered the lock, you can pull the cuff out of the housing together with the ring.
This completes the removal of the old gasket. Before installing the new seal, be sure to clean the sealing surface of any dirt and debris. Wipe the surface with a clean, damp cloth.
It is important to install the new cuff correctly - the drain hole should be located at the bottom.
Experts recommend additionally sealing the mounting area with a sealant. Any moisture-resistant silicone compound will do. This will help prevent leaks.
Installing the new seal is simple. Insert it into the drum so the drain hole is facing down, then pull the edges of the seal over the tank and housing as they were previously positioned. The next step is to replace the inner and outer clamps.
First, install the inner clamp. It's important to stretch its fastening as much as possible to maximize the rim diameter. This will make it easier to return the ring to its original position.
The clamp's tightening side should be on the right—otherwise, it will be difficult to use the tool. The ring is inserted through the washing machine's loading opening. Once the rim is in place, tighten it with a screwdriver through the top of the washing machine (be careful not to overtighten, otherwise you could tear the collar).
The outer clamp is installed in a similar manner. It must be secured with the screw that was removed earlier. Reassembling the washing machine is done in the following order:
put the upper front bar of the washing machine back in place;
connect the wires to the control panel according to the previous diagram;
install the instrument panel and secure it with screws;
screw in the bolts securing the detergent dispenser;
put the powder receptacle back in place;
Place the top cover of the washing machine body and secure the panel with two screws;
Connect the automatic washing machine to the utilities.
After finishing your wash, run a test cycle without any laundry in the drum. You can select the shortest cycle that requires water, such as a rinse cycle. Observe the machine—if no water leaks from under the door, the seal is installed correctly. If there is a leak, you'll have to disassemble the machine again and look for the leak.
It's easier to prevent any breakdown than to fix it later. If you follow the operating instructions, you won't need to replace the drum seal of your Haier washing machine. Therefore, carefully load and unload laundry, avoid leaving sharp objects in pockets that could damage the seal, and wipe the seal dry after each wash (this will prevent mold). These measures will help prevent premature wear of the seal.
