Electrolux washing machine markings

Electrolux car symbolsUsers often struggle to recognize the icons on Electrolux washing machines, especially those with unlabeled control panels. It's helpful if the icon is a clear image of a basin of water, but if it's a squiggle, it's impossible to decipher using basic logic.

To properly use your Electrolux washing machine, you need to correctly decipher all the icons on its panel. Let's decipher them together. We'll also learn how to correctly decipher the markings for a specific Electrolux washing machine model—this will help you understand the capabilities of your "home assistant."

Basic icons

The Electrolux washing machine control panel always features a symbol identifying a particular washing mode, laundry care program, or general operation of the appliance. These symbols are essential to understand, as without understanding their meaning, you could select the wrong wash program and easily damage your laundry.

In general, it is strongly recommended not to try to operate a modern washing machine by trial and error, so before you try to use a newly purchased washing machine for the first time, carefully read the instructions and decipher the icons on the control panel.

basic icons

In the image above, you can see 4 icons, they correspond to the four stages of laundry care that an Electrolux automatic washing machine is capable of providing. The symbol depicting a basin containing the Roman numeral one stands for pre-wash. Incidentally, you can find this symbol on the washing machine's detergent drawer. The manufacturer places it there to prevent the user from mixing up the detergent drawers when preparing the washing machine for use.

The main wash cycle is indicated by a symbol depicting a basin with the Roman numeral two. The main wash cycle is used in all situations, so deciphering this symbol is essential. The basin filled with water signifies the rinse cycle, while the telling spiral symbol signifies the spin cycle.

washing stages

In the picture above you can see another group of the most important and frequently used icons.

  • If your Electrolux washing machine has a Rinse Hold function, it is indicated by a picture of a basin filled with water.

Visually, the "rinse" and "rinse hold" icons are noticeably different. The water in the basin under the "rinse" icon is depicted with waves and ripples, while in the "rinse hold" icon, the water is clear.

  • The washing machine's drain is depicted as a basin with a hole in the bottom. Water flows out of this hole, as indicated by the arrow.
  • The "end of program" sign is drawn in the form of an arrow pointing to the right towards an improvised door, the role of which in the drawing is played by a vertically positioned stick.

As you can see, the decoding is not complicated; it can easily be memorized the first time. Some users of these washing machines make it even simpler. After deciphering the icons on the control panel, they replace them with paper stickers with short descriptions. In our opinion, this is overkill, although perhaps this method has its place.

Auxiliary icons

Depending on the model and configuration, different Electrolux washing machines have different features. These features are also indicated on the washing machine's control panel with special icons. Furthermore, important information that the manufacturer wishes to convey to customers for advertising purposes is also displayed on the washing machine body as icons. True, they, unlike the signs we described above, are easier to recognize without additional deciphering.

About the marking code

Markings are required on the body of every Electrolux washing machine. Let's take the Electrolux EWS1066CAU as an example. This is a specific Electrolux washing machine model with certain basic characteristics. These are encoded in this marking. Let's decipher this marking together.

Electrolux washing machine markings

The first part of the marking code is easy to decipher – it is the brand of the washing machine. In our case, it's Electrolux. Next come three English letters. The first letter again indicates the brand of the washing machine; apparently, the manufacturer allows for the marking to be written on the body using only letters and numbers. The second letter indicates the type of appliance, identifying it as an automatic washing machine, not a refrigerator or microwave. The third letter identifies the washing machine's load capacity and its type.

The code then consists of four digits. The first two digits determine the maximum spin speed. In our case, it's 1000 rpm, which isn't much, but washing machines in this series can have spin speeds up to 1600 rpm. The third digit indicates the maximum drum load, in our example 6 kg. And the fourth digit indicates the washing machine's control type, typically electronic. The last letters of the marking code are used to identify the different components and assemblies used in the machine; this information isn't particularly important to the user.

The last letters of the marking code can be useful if, for example, you need to replace a washing machine motor. Knowing the code, you can easily find the right component or unit in the store.
