Symbols on an Indesit washing machine
After purchasing a brand new Indesit washing machine, users are often overwhelmed by the abundance of symbols on the control panel. In this situation, you need to first decipher the icons on your Indesit washing machine before using your "home assistant." Otherwise, finding the right programs through trial and error could prove fatal to your clothes. Let's decipher the symbols on this brand's washing machines and also look at the marking codes for these machines.
Main icons
Indesit washing machines, especially modern ones, often have a short explanation of the symbols right on the control panel. This explanation is quite clear and requires no further explanation. You can see a clear example in the image below.

Unfortunately, this isn't always the case. Many Indesit washing machine models, especially those released several years ago, feature the so-called old-style control panel, which contains nothing but a few dozen icons and numbers. Similar issues are also found in modern budget models. To begin a methodical deciphering, divide all the icons into at least two groups (primary and secondary), and start with the primary icons.
The main icons indicate the modes and programs that are most frequently used by Indesit washing machine users.
- Cotton.
- Cotton with soaking.
- Cotton: intensive wash.
- Cotton: gentle wash.
- Synthetics: intensive wash.
- Synthetics: gentle wash.
- Delicate fabrics.
- Economical wash.
- Super fast wash.
- Rinsing.
- Drain.
- Spin.

In the picture above, we have highlighted these modes specifically so that you can look at the icons that represent them. It is interesting to note that on Indesit washing machines produced 5 years ago, the "cotton" icon was usually depicted as a cotton flower, while on the most modern models, a white T-shirt symbol is more often used. In our opinion, the difference is not fundamental, the main thing to remember is that both of these icons refer to the same thing.
Additional icons
Additional, or as they are also called, special symbols are also present in the modern Indesit "home assistant," and the newer the model, the more of these symbols it has. Why is this? In recent years, machine manufacturers have begun introducing a huge number of highly specialized programs and features designed for items with specific characteristics. In this way, washing machine manufacturers strive to please the most discerning users.
In addition, new technologies in the field of clothing care are emerging, which are used in advanced models of Indesit washing machines.

Above, you can see an image where we've highlighted the symbols for additional programs and features. The list is far from exhaustive, as completely new models with new programs and features are already being released. Let's discuss these additional symbols in more detail.
- The "wool" symbol is depicted either as a sweater or a skein of wool, which is a fairly straightforward image. This is a washing program specially designed for woolen items. Its features: long execution time, low drum rotation speed, low water temperature.
- The "Delicates" symbol is depicted as a six-petal flower. This is a wash cycle suitable for silk, satin, cashmere, and other delicate fabrics. In this case, the wash cycle is performed with a large amount of water, the drum rotates slowly, and the water temperature is typically 30°C.0C. The complete analogue of delicate fabrics is the “silk” symbol.
- The "jeans" symbol. It undergoes virtually no external changes, and what's there to change? The image of denim pants speaks volumes about the washing program. And that washing program is for denim clothing.
- Easy ironing. If you see a small iron icon on the control panel, know that your Indesit washing machine can wash your laundry in a way that makes it much easier to iron.Although, to be fair, it should be noted that this mode reduces spinning, and some users complain that the laundry is downright wet after using it.
- The "hand wash" icon. It turns out that the washing machine can simulate hand washing. The drum's rotation speed is calibrated to exert sufficient mechanical force on soiled fabrics while still treating them as gently as hand washing—hence the name of the wash cycle.
- The "sports shoe" symbol. It denotes one of the varieties of gentle programs, which are ideal if you, for example, need wash Converse or sneakers.
- The "Curtains" symbol. If you need to wash curtains made of lightweight fabrics, the cycle indicated by this symbol is ideal. Heavy curtains are a problem. Firstly, they require a washing machine with a fairly large load, and secondly, washing heavy and dense fabrics in this cycle is ineffective.
- The "Soak" symbol. This program is useful when you simply need to soak an item for a long time, but don't want to wash it. The washing machine will fill with water, heat it to the desired temperature, and soak the items for up to several hours. Then, the machine will drain the water and finish the cycle without spinning.
The "Soak" program may be necessary for particularly soiled items. In this case, run this program first, followed by the regular wash cycle.
About the marking code
Now let's talk about the marking code for Indesit washing machines. Each country where this washing machine is manufactured has its own marking code, and the differences are quite significant. We'll be primarily interested in models manufactured in the CIS countries, so we'll discuss them.

The image above shows an example of the marking code for a specific Indesit washing machine model assembled in Russia. A brief explanation is already provided in the image; we just need to add a few clarifications.
The first two letters of the code have no meaning to the user. The third letter indicates that this washing machine model has a narrow frame and is front-loading. If you have a top-loading washing machine, the first part of the code will have five letters instead of four, plus the letter T. The fourth letter in the first part of the marking code determines the type of control (electronic or mechanical), as well as the type of indication.
The second part of the code consists of four digits and one letter. In our example, the first digit is 8, indicating that the washing machine has a load capacity of 8 kg. The next two digits are 1 and 0, indicating that the drum rotates at 1000 rpm. The last digit of the code indicates the design and color of the machine. Finally, the last letter of the code, which stands alone, indicates the country of manufacture—in our case, Russia.
In conclusion, it's worth noting that a modern Indesit washing machine can have dozens of different programs, subprograms, and useful functions. Each program and function has its own special icon, which contains a wealth of useful information. It's essential for every user to know what each icon means; otherwise, it will be difficult to use the machine properly.
