Symbols on a Bosch tumble dryer

Symbols on a Bosch tumble dryerModern dryers are similar to washing machines in many ways, so new owners usually quickly figure out how they work. Even the symbols on the control panel of these "home helpers" are often somewhat similar. However, sometimes the icons on the display of a Bosch dryer can be confusing, especially if there are no labels underneath them. The same applies to symbols on clothing tags, which can be difficult to decipher. We'll help you decipher the most common symbols found on dryers and clothing tags.

Basic symbols

A detailed list of programs and functions marked with buttons on the panel can be found in the official user manual. But if you don't have the instructions on hand, recognizing the symbols on your dryer and clothing label can be challenging. For your convenience, we've listed the most important symbols on product labels that are essential for proper drying.

  • A white circle within a square. When there are no additional symbols inside the circle, the symbol indicates that it is suitable for appliance drying.
  • A white circle with a dot in a square. This symbol allows clothes to be dried at the lowest temperature—40 degrees Celsius or lower.Tumble dryer symbols
  • A white circle with two dots in a square. This symbol means the item can be dried at a normal temperature—up to 60 degrees Celsius.
  • A white circle with a cross in a square. If you see this icon on a garment's label, the item should not be tumble dried.

At your own risk, you can try drying an item with the fourth symbol in the dryer on the most delicate short-term setting, but even this does not guarantee that the item will not be damaged after the cycle.

These are the basic icons users need when using a home appliance. Many people don't recognize them because they've previously overlooked them, focusing on the icons for their washing machine.

Auxiliary symbols

We've covered the main icons encountered by Bosch tumble dryers. Now, let's look for the additional icons, which should be looked for not on clothing labels, but on the display of the dryer itself. These symbols typically appear briefly and then disappear, so it's best to know what they mean. Here's a breakdown of the most common symbols.

  • A circle with seven circles inside. This symbol indicates that the owner of the appliance needs to clean the filter, as it has accumulated dust and debris, preventing the machine from working effectively.
  • A water tank with a drop falling into it. Another symbol indicating equipment maintenance. This symbol indicates that the condensate tank is full and needs to be emptied.Bosch tumble dryer panel
  • A horizontal line with three vertical waves. A standard pictogram indicating an active drying process.
  • Iron. Indicates that the dryer is in the Iron Dry mode.
  • Cupboard. Indicates that the "Cupboard Dry" cycle is in progress.
  • A circle with an arrow inside it, shaped like an arc. This means the anti-crease function is activated.
  • Key. When this icon is lit, the machine has a child safety lock.

When the Child Lock mode is active, the control panel will be locked until the user removes the lock.

  • Sun with a plus sign. When this symbol is lit, the "Drying Level" function is activated.

As a result, there are only a few symbols you need to know to operate a Bosch tumble dryer, so they are easy to remember or save for later.
